Change in the “Work”: Moses
Written by Stacy Rodriguez
The Lord has been teaching me about change from this growth work in studying the life of Moses.
What is the point?
He leads us to the promised land, through the work.
Then in Numbers 20 I see Moses, who physically sits in the presence of God Almighty and glows with his glory, striving rather than trusting when he struck the rock. I see a man who wanted change so badly his anger ruled over him in murder, but through the work, his anger gets focused for good, for his purpose, and for His glory. His change did not come quickly and the work did not come easy but I can see that it was fruitful and deep and lasting.
Most of all, I see God mercifully meeting him where he was in the growth process, and I am encouraged. Often this work can feel lonely: when I am growing but I don’t see others in my sphere doing the same. I wonder, “what is the point when the terrain doesn’t change for me, despite how much I have changed?”
And then I remember: Moses got to go up the mountain and see the face of God while the Israelites stayed in camp and fear, and I’m invigorated by the realization that I too am In The Light; being called up the mountain to higher things and greater depths of being known and loved. He speaks to us. He liberates us. He leads us to the promised land, through the work (seeking growth and change).
And then it no longer feels like work, but rather a sweet harvest of lasting growth and change.
